It's been quite a while since American truck buyers were able to purchase a new, small pickup truck; however, as the 2022 Ford Maverick proves, it's not the size of your vehicle that's important, but the way you use it. From the outside, at first, you might think that Ford Maverick probably wouldn't have the qualities of a Truck of the Year finalist. With a single-body design and a smaller V-6 engine, the Maverick ditches the "traditional" body-on-frame pickup design favoring a more modern crossover pickup. Here are some pros and cons we see with the truck!

Pros

1. Low Starting Price

The cheapest Maverick XL is priced at $19,995, making it the most affordable car within the US and Ford's cheapest-priced offering. It's more practical and interesting than most low-cost automobiles and SUVs. The Maverick could be the most attractive budget model available on the market. The middle-tier Maverick XLT is priced at $22,360. In comparison, the top-of-the-line Maverick Lariat is priced at $25,860.

2. Stellar Fuel Economy

The hybrid Maverick has 42 mpg in city driving and 33 on the highway, and 37 combined Those are great numbers for any car (it surpasses even the 2022 Honda Civic) and is particularly efficient in the world of pickup trucks.

3. Small And Easily Maneuverable

The Maverick has a bigger truck's advantages without feeling too large or heavy. The Maverick's slim proportions and low riding height make it easy to move around in a parking lot or park in parallel. If you're driving a big pickup, like Ford's Ford F-150, that's easier to say than done.

4. Plentiful Storage
There are plenty of clever storage spaces inside the Maverick. There's a small cubby behind the infotainment screen and a storage container that sits on the dash. They're not particularly spacious, but they do accommodate sunglasses or even a wallet.

But as much as we love the Maverick, there are a few cons we need to talk about.

5. You Must Pay For The Features You Want To Use

The low price for the base model can be a double-edged sword. It could mean you have to shell out more for a better quality trim and an options package to obtain all the features you want. Critics say some of the base models safety and convenience features that are standard on many cars, such as the power mirrors and cruise controls. However, considering the Maverick's low price, it isn't bad.

On top versions, you'll have to pay for an extra luxury or driver assistance bundle to enjoy things like heated seats, electric seats, adaptive cruise control, as well as parking sensors in the rear. The approximately $34,000 Hyundai Santa Cruz, the Maverick's primary rival, provides the same standard features and safety technology.

6. Struggles At High Speed

So that fuel efficient engine we talked about…well, it has some tradeoffs. It's not going to take you far in a hurry. While the electric and gas setup of 191 horsepower is a joy to drive around town, it has trouble operating at higher speeds. The system can eventually produce high speeds, but it's slow and noisy process. If you're looking to sacrifice fuel economy in exchange for more power for passing and an all-wheel drive, you can upgrade to the 250-horsepower turbocharged engine.

7. Interior Luxury and Comfort

While the Maverick does sport interesting designs and funky moulded plastics that radiate more personality than you would imagine from a model that is priced at entry-level…this Maverick XL's interior isn't the most comfortable. There's plenty of wind noise when driving at highway speeds.

In 2022, the Maverick is Ford's latest and smallest vehicle. By many metrics, it's amazing. It comes with some pros and cons that are the same as other trucks, but it's a fantastic vehicle.
