Known for its support of the community, Kalmar hosted the Christmas in July 2014 5k Walk/Run to benefit the East Central Kansas Economic Opportunity Corporation (ECKAN) Christmas Bureau on Saturday July 19. The walk/run benefited individuals and families who are in need of assistance during the Christmas holiday. The East Central Kansas Economic Opportunity Corporation (ECKAN) is a community action agency that has been in existence since 1966, serving low-income persons in the Kansas counties of Anderson, Coffey, Douglas, Franklin, Johnson, Lyon, Miami, Morris and Osage.
