Saving elephants with bees? In Tanzania Moses Ryakitimbo learned that elephants are afraid of bees. For the 1500 villagers living in Lendoiya this has been life changing. As recently as three years ago elephants were raiding farm crops. Not only was this bad for the farmers, but their families and the elephants. Imagine a huge elephant and her 25 friends visiting your maize field! You may also grab that spear behind your door... and yes, frequently these conflicts didn't end well, for farmer or elephant.
Since early 2019 Nikela has sponsored over 100 beehives. Moses and his team build, install and maintain the beehives that are arranged like a fence between the elephants terrain and the farm fields.
This project run by Moses has been a huge success. No elephants have been killed. No farm crops have been destroyed and the village families are once again enjoying good harvests... and did I mention the honey?
