In this video I give five great tips for designing circuits with electrolytic capacitors and there's a bonus tip at the end.

Some people say that electrolytic capacitors are rubbish and should just not be used and tossed away. But in reality they can provide great performance if you stick to the simple design guidelines I'll give you.

If you use these secrets, electrolytic or aluminium electrolytic capacitors can give you great performance and I've found that in most instances they will give a long and reliable life, sometimes well exceeding those of other types of capacitor.

The five tips for using aluminium electrolytic capacitors in your circuit designs are about their polarity, operating temperatures, operating voltage, ripple current and frequency response.

These five great tips enable the limitations of the capacitor to be accommodated in any design so that their best performance can be assured. As with any electronic component, electrolytic capacitors have their weaknesses and limitations and these need to be accommodated within the way they are used.

There's also a bonus tip about operating them, and any other components well within their rated parameters to ensure that they give the best performance and reliability - don't stress them or they'll fail ore often.
