Star Fleet Command 2: Orion Pirates was released in 2001. It's unique map offered a way of galactic scale warfare that enabled players to affect the world. Fights with AI and other human players was made possible through the dynaverse, allowing for hundreds upon hunreds of players to play at the same time. thousands of users could exist in one galaxy map.

I think this game has superior combat to that of Star Trek Online. and the actions you take affect the world around you, failing a mission might mean the pirates move in and take over the sector. succeeding in assaulting a planet furthers your empires boarder. and with So many factions in play, the universe never repeats itself.
