NSW One Nation Leader Mark Latham says green hydrogen is an industry that will work on a “wing and a prayer”.

The NSW government launched its green hydrogen strategy last week, which involves $3 billion of subsidies for production of the clean fuel.

Mr Latham said the technology is “fundamentally inefficient” and has a “whole host of problems with it”.

“The idea that you take energy to create a different form of energy is obviously inefficient, but you lose so much of your original energy form, in some of these hydrogen projects, you only end up with 10 per cent of what you started with,” he said.

“So, the cost to taxpayer is enormous, and the outcomes for the public untested are probably going to be minimal.”
