Saint Martin of Porres (1579–1639) was a Peruvian Dominican lay brother, renowned for his piety and compassion. Born to a Spanish father and a freed slave mother, he faced prejudice due to his mixed-race heritage. Despite this, Martin dedicated his life to caring for the sick and poor, earning a reputation for miraculous healing and humility. Known as the patron saint of social justice and racial harmony, his selfless acts and devotion to God led to his canonization in 1962. Saint Martin of Porres is celebrated for transcending societal barriers to embody love, kindness, and service to humanity.
