Saint Martin of Porres (1579–1639) was a Peruvian Dominican lay brother, renowned for his piety and compassion. Born to a Spanish father and a freed slave mother, he faced prejudice due to his mixed-race heritage. Despite this, Martin dedicated his life to caring for the sick and poor, earning a reputation for miraculous healing and humility. Known as the patron saint of social justice and racial harmony, his selfless acts and devotion to God led to his canonization in 1962.
