Following an absents of 5 years and a heavy overhaul, Vintage Trains’ flagship Castle Class no 5043 ‘Earl of Mount Edgcumbe’ made its long awaited return to the mainline with a test run from its Tyseley base along a circular route via Leicester and Castle Donnington, on Friday 24th February 2023
Opening up this short video sees the Castle charging through Narborough with some whistles as she heads towards Leicester with her 7 coach load and 47773 on the rear, following a water stop at Humberstone Road 5043 is next seen passing Loughborough on the fast line viewed from Meadow Lane bridge, In hoping for a fast run the Castle ended up being checked for a 20mph speed restriction through the station but makes a good sound accelerating back to speed
With the test run complete 5043 will now take up its share on the roster with Vintage Trains alongside 7029 ‘Clun Castle’, I certainly look forward to the next 10 years with Tyseleys legendary Castle!
