9th June 1979 saw the West Somerset Railway reopened its section of line between Stogumber and Bishops Lydeard, making it the longest standard gauge heritage railway in the UK.
40 years later, the West Somerset Railway held a 40th anniversary gala with a mixture of steam and diesel traction.
