In 1909 Rural England, two children learn that their beloved car from the junkyard they frequent it going to be scrapped for metal. They meet Truly Scrumptious who gives them a ride home to their widowed father Caraticus (Dick Van Dyke) who is an inventor struggling to provide for his children and their grandfather. Eventually Truly and Caraticus fall for one another after getting off on the wrong foot. He figures out a way to scrape together enough money to purchase the children’s beloved car. With his inventor skills he fixes it right up and the whole family goes on and adventure to a far away land where Chitty can fly to where the evil Baron Bomburst captured their grandfather. Along the way they realize the land they’re visiting has outlawed children. The Child Catcher is sent out to capture the children and imprison them. The movie’s message delivers the importance of imagination, opening yourself up to love, and creating something beautiful with the little you have in life.
