Our essential post-lambing protocols are demonstrated with arrival of a new set of twin Dorset lambs! To ensure a healthy start, we immediately tube feed each lamb with approximately 150 ml of powdered colostrum, providing them with an essential initial boost. This allows the lambs 24 hours to learn how to latch onto their mother's own colostrum, without any concerns about whether they received enough nourishment.

In addition, we take necessary precautions to prevent infection by carefully dipping each lamb's naval cord. We also ensure their comfort by gently removing excess mucous from their nose and mouth using a towel, which proves to be more efficient than using bare hands or straw.

Furthermore, we prioritize the bonding process between the lambs and their mothers. We thoroughly check that each mother has milk on both teats and provide a private jug setup for each mom and her lambs. This arrangement allows them to bond without any interference from other sheep, fostering a strong connection from the very beginning.

Join us in this video as we guide you through each of these important steps. Afterward, we invite you to witness how we fertilize our pastures and hay fields, as we continue to care for our flock and ensure their well-being.
