Griffith, Indiana's Paul Goldsmith has lived an amazing life...and at 97 years young, the legendary racer is still living it. Born in 1925, Goldsmith lived through the Great Depression, served as a Merchant Marine in World War II, and then went on to compete in the NASCAR Cup Series, the Indy 500 and AMA as a National Champion rider. Along the way, he became an accomplished commercial pilot, flying as many as 61,000 hours total in the air over his remarkable lifetime. He is currently the oldest living NASCAR Cup Series winner, the Oldest living AMA Flat Track National Champion and the oldest living Indy 500 driver, competing in six consecutive Indy 500s from 1958 through 1963, finishing a career-best 3rd in 1960 and 5th in 1959, all with very little experience at the Brickyard. He currently owns and operates the Griffith-Merrillville Airport in Griffith, Indiana and still builds aircraft engines to this day. His life is beyond remarkable and deserves a closer look. Join me, the #HistoryMysteryMan, for a rare sit-down with 97-year-old Paul Goldsmith from his office at the airport he owns.
