Local playwright Margarette Joyner refers to her plays as gifts.
“I believe it’s a way for our ancestors to get their stories told,” she said.
“This is a story of undying love,” Joyner said. “Basically, it says that we need to get back to that type of intense love. If we do that, it would cure a whole lot of the ills of the world. More important than anything else she is saying we have to hold onto God.”
Her plays are all based on African-American stories that often reflect under-told stories from the past. Such is the case with “Message From A Slave,” which is being presented by The Heritage Ensemble Theatre Company starting Thursday, Feb. 9 - 18th...

Shanea N. Taylor will be directing the one-woman show that features Pamela Archer Shaw as both mother and daughter.
