It is day 5 of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the situation on the ground is changing quickly. While the talks in Belarus progress, fighting is intensifying on several fronts. The Ukrainian President is steadfast in reminding the West that his soldiers are not only fighting for their country, but for peace, freedom and democracy in Europe and beyond. The global economy is bracing itself for the impact of increasing energy prices and Western sanctions, while neighbouring states face the largest population movement since WWII.

Speakers:

Natalia Antelava- co-founder and editor-in-chief of Coda Story. An ex-BBC resident correspondent, she covered the Russian invasion of Georgia in 2008, the war in Eastern Ukraine. Her investigations into human rights abuses in Central Asia, Iraq and the United States have won her a number of awards and an Emmy nomination.

Timothy Garton Ash - Professor of European Studies in the University of Oxford and Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University. He is a British historian, columnist for the Guardian, and the author of numerous books with his latest being, The Magic Lantern: The Revolution of ’89 Witnessed in Warsaw, Budapest, Berlin, & Prague.

James Rodgers - Associate Professor in International Journalism at City University of London, he is an academic, journalist and the author of Assignment Moscow: Reporting on Russia from Lenin to Putin published in the U.K. and U.S. in 2020.

Andrei Soldatov - Russian Investigative Journalist and Russian Security Services expert, he is a co-founder and editor of the Agentura.Ru website.

Michael Bociurkiw - Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council, Global Affairs analyst and moderator of World Briefing series.

James Rodgers - ex BBC Mascow Correspondent since 1989. He is now Associate Professor in International Journalism at City University of London and author of Assignment Moscow: Reporting on Russia from Lenin to Putin.

Bishop Kenneth Nowakowski - is the Bishop of the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy in London. He arrived in London just before the first lockdown in 2020 and just as the country began to open up Ukraine conflict with Russia was escalating. He now finds himself as the spiritual leader of the Ukrainian diaspora here in the UK and representing Ukraine.
