Today, we met with Hivemapper's CEO Ariel Seidman to hear how the company is building a community-owned map with the help of Helium. Hivemapper's network goes live TODAY, and along with that, you can now order their Dashcam that allows anyone in a car to map their neighborhood and share their data.

The really cool thing is.. inside of the Dashcam is support for the Helium Network! People may try to spoof their location and pretend to be somewhere other than where they really are, but by using the Helium Network, this can be avoided. How is this possible, you ask?

Let's say you're driving in San Francisco on Van Ness and recording what the Dashcam sees, and then another user comes an hour later, on the same street, recording with their own Dashcam.

By using the Helium Network, the Dashcams are able to validate which Hotspots were seen on that street. If both drivers do not see matching Hotspots, Hivemapper will know someone is trying to cheat the network. This is called LOCATION VERIFICATION through the Helium Network!
