The UK has made a bold exit from the European Union and talks about ‘Global Britain’. But how will all this work out economically? What will it mean for trade, migration and investment, and what's next for 'Global Britain'?

Professor L. Alan Winters is a leading expert in international trade. In this Masterclass he draws on the theory and empirical research to explore options for the UK. He looks at the realities of ‘sovereignty’ in an increasingly complex global economic context. Can a nation which 'goes it alone' really be the ‘free trader’ the UK strives to be.

L. Alan Winters is Professor of Economics at the University of Sussex Business School and a Fellow and Founding Director of the UK Trade Policy Observatory in the University of Sussex. Previous roles include Chief Economist at the British government’s Department for International Development (DFID), Director of the Development Research Group of the World Bank and Editor of The World Trade Review. He has advised various UK government departments, the OECD, the Commonwealth Secretariat, the European Commission, the European Parliament, UNCTAD, the WTO, and the Inter-American Development Bank.
