'Egg machine' business augments livelihood in a remote Sulu barangay

Residents living in the far-flung barangay of Kaha, in Parang, Sulu are augmenting their income through an 'egg machine' farming facility which was initiated by Department of Agriculture IX thru Special Area for Agricultural Development. It is now supplying quality eggs for the whole village consumption which are sold at Php6 to Php7 per egg depending on the size. With 480 egg laying chicken or 10 Modules, the facility can earn a monthly income of Php30,000.

MP Don Mustapha Loong notes that this livelihood venture can be replicated in different parts of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Mindanao Muslim. "A steady source of livelihood can deter residents from joining lawless groups," he says.

He also calls on the Ministry of Public Works-BARMM to assist residents by providing access to potable water and other relevant support mechanisms to sustain livelihood programs like this throughout the region.
