The 2024 Audi Q4 e-tron arrives as a more affordable alternative to the e-tron GT and Q8 e-tron for buyers wanting an electric luxury SUV. Based on the same underpinnings as the Volkswagen ID.4 and Skoda Enyaq iV, the Q4 e-tron adds a more premium look and feel over its mainstream cousins. After driving it for a week, we can say Audi has crafted a compelling contender in the increasingly crowded electric SUV space.

On the outside, the Q4 e-tron has a stylish and sophisticated appearance that will appeal to luxury buyers. The sleek silhouette incorporates familiar Audi SUV design cues like the octagonal grille and sculpted bodylines. LED headlights and taillights come standard, with matrix LED units optional. Big 20- and 21-inch wheel designs fill the wheel wells nicely.

Step inside and you're greeted by an elegant yet minimalist cabin that raises the bar for electric vehicles in this price range. High-quality materials abound, from the standard leather upholstery to the metal accent trim. The 11.6-inch touchscreen is quick to respond and easy to use. We especially like Audi's augmented reality head-up display that makes the navigation directions seem to project onto the road ahead.

Two powertrain choices are available. The Q4 e-tron 40 has a single rear motor making 201 hp, while the Q4 e-tron 50 Quattro gets dual motors for a combined 295 hp and all-wheel drive. Even the base 40 provides adequate acceleration, though more enthusiastic drivers will want the quicker 50. Both models use an 82 kWh battery, but range varies from 265 to 288 miles.

Out on the road, the Q4 proves quiet, comfortable, and effortless to drive. The ride is composed over bumps and the steering is precise if a tad numb on center. We noticed some body roll in aggressive corners, which is the trade-off for the compliant ride. Overall, it strikes an appropriate balance for a luxury SUV.

With a starting price of around $50,000, the Q4 e-tron undercuts rivals like the BMW iX and Mercedes EQB while offering more passenger space. Even upper trims stay well under $60,000, making this one of the better EV values in the premium segment. Government incentives could also make it an even better deal.

Some drawbacks include so-so range for the 40 model, and driving dynamics that are competent but not particularly engaging. But for buyers simply wanting a nicely appointed and comfortable electric SUV, the 2024 Audi Q4 e-tron has a lot to offer. Its reasonable pricing and quality cabin make it one of the smarter buys among luxury EVs.
