Translation;
I knew the world was crowded and cruel
I knew life was often foolish and unkind
And having weaved myself a wreath of May-time songs
I raised my castle way above the clouds.

Here I breathe without bitterness or anger
Here I’m guarded from envy and lies
I’m alone, it’s true, but here I’m a queen
And my pages are my dreams.

My swarm of dreams’ submissive to my power
But one dream, a disobedient one
Murmurs to me of some boundless
Happiness every spring.

In this dream what joy, oh, what oblivion:
Childlike laughter of the bygone days
Sparkling singing of the secret strings
Majestic dawn, flutter of the wings.

Oh, my dream, my best, my one and only
Teach me how to go on living in the dark
How not to hear the rustle of swan’s feathers
How to forget the mighty rays of light.
