Compact SUVs are all the rage in the luxury market, and Mercedes-Benz led the way for many with its GLA-Class that's now in its second-generation. Since then every major luxury automotive player has come up with a 'GLA-contender' with varying success, growing the compact-luxury SUV space considerably.

But what they haven't done is stretched it out a bit, and added a couple of jump-seats in a third row. That's exactly what Mercedes-Benz has done with the new GLB-Class, and they've even donned the thing with unique styling that's more G-Wagen than GLA. With all that character and the promise of practicality, does the entry-level GLB200 have what it takes to carve a niche for itself and, more importantly, is this the beginning of a new trend in the compact-SUV space?
