Volcano changed its behaviour. Reporting from the slopes of StĂłrihrĂștur above SyĂ°ri Meradalur valley. June 16, 2021. Last night I visited three valleys that had been flooded by lava: NĂĄtthagi, SyĂ°ri Meradalur and Meradalir. I also hiked up Langihryggur and StĂłrihrĂștur mountains next to the volcano. This footage is from the slopes of StĂłrihrĂștur. Volcano is active but slowed down somewhat. If before, we had eruptions within 3-10 min intervals, now it has constantly boiling crater with lava outflow through the channel exit. The channel exit ends with holes where lava sinks into lava tubes being delivered into neighbouring valleys through the tunnels. The walls of the output channel grew and its hard to see the magma output unless one uses a drone, as from two current access points where you can come close to the volcano and observe it (1. Trail B and 2. Langihryggur/StĂłrihrĂștur) you can't see inside of the output channel. Two viewing hills in front of the crater are not accessible anymore, after lava went over trail A on June 13.
