The Chinese media downgraded the Putin Xi meeting and no longer trumpet a China-Russia alliance. However, Putin’s war over Ukraine escalated right after Putin met Xi Jinping in Uzbekistan, which followed by a ministerial level meeting that discussed among other things, further cooperation between the military departments of the two countries. Could Xi be backing Putin up after all?
