Companies like Amazon and TripAdvisor have produced the largest customer satisfaction survey in the history of the planet. The rise of online ratings and reviews has dramatically changed how consumers make purchase decisions, but should we trust them? In this talk, behavioral scientist Bart de Langhe will analyze whether online ratings help consumers buy better products, and how the availability of online ratings have changed the role of advertising and pricing. Bart de Langhe is a behavioral scientist who studies how consumers and managers make decisions with data. He publishes his findings in peer-reviewed academic journals, such as the Journal of Consumer Research and the Journal of Marketing Research, and in managerial outlets, such as Harvard Business Review. Dr. de Langhe is a marketing professor at ESADE and a member of ESADE’s Institute for Data-Driven Decisions. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
