We are constantly fed false information about Islam—claims that it is a religion of violence and that its sacred book is meant to inspire terrorists. There is no way to assess these claims unless we have at least some knowledge of the Qur'an.

How do the contents of the Qur'an compare to other sacred books? How has the text inspired difficulties of interpretation by the West and beyond?

Garry Wills is a professor of history emeritus at Northwestern University. He is a Pulitzer Prize-winning historian and author.
