It’s not unusual to say someone in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is the stuff of legend. They have an actual legendary God of Thunder on the roster of the main team. But there’s one character whose most notorious moments happened off screen and is only talked about in guarded whispers by the people know know what he’s capable of. That character of course is the elusive Winter Soldier himself, Bucky Barnes. Functionally speaking, Bucky Barnes belongs to the super spy contingent of the MCU, along with characters like Black Widow, Hawkeye, Agent 13, and the Agents of SHIELD. But while most of these have a gimmick that separate them, like sharp archery skills or flipping and shocking people, Bucky has two distinct edges that make him a legend. The first of course is the super advanced robot arm. You can’t go wrong with a super advanced robot arm. The other is that Bucky Barnes is one of the rare semi-stable super soldiers to exist. In fact, his instability isn’t so much the super soldier juice pumping through his veins as it is the treatment he got from the people who gave it to him. The century old soldier turned spy turned guy who would like to make amends for his life has had a long and interesting life that has taken place mostly off screen. Just what has led Steve Rogers’ best bud to pairing up with Rogers’ new friend and fighting super soldiers? Let’s review the life of Bucky Barnes.
