I admit that like many people, I love dogs. They fascinate me. And there's no doubt that when my wife and I visited Pompeii, as the story tells, one dog outsmarted us. Visiting Pompeii is spectacular. You get a sense of history that you get nowhere else. There are dogs everywhere. Hundreds of them. Those of you who know just how smart dogs can be won't find this story unbelievable. But the dog that "adopted" us on our way to breakfast completely fooled us. And that made the whole experience even better.

Visiting the Amalfi coast is something that everyone should do in their lifetime. Absolutely gorgeous. Fabulous food. Incredible views. Incredible history. These days, there are organizations helping the Pompeii dogs to find homes but back when we were there, they just lived and didn't just survive, but thrived.
