Here is a Riccar Supralite Sand Trap upright vacuum (model R10.SAND) that was recently acquired. This vacuum was bought for fairly cheap from a local pawn shop in my area, and unlike the R10S I also have (   • Riccar Supralite R10S Lightweight Upr...  ), this one had a little more things wrong with it than the other one, first off, the owner for whatever reason ran it with the wrong bag, and it wouldn't seal up right, so as a result, the inside of the outer bag was completely caked in dust, the belt was actually broken (usually these "lifetime" belts are supposed to last a long time), and the brush roll needed new brush strips, so after a few parts purchases later, it's now back up and running, and better than ever. The Riccar Supralite (as well as the Simplicity Freedom and Maytag M500) was made for people who want an Oreck for the sake of it being lightweight, but didn't like its performance, so Tacony (the company that owns Riccar, Simplicity, and Maytag) decided to improve on Oreck's design to make it a much better performer. What makes this outclean an Oreck, is mostly due to its brush roll with extremely stiff bristles, and this does not come with a separate handheld vacuum for attachments use, unlike the Oreck, but that's not a major deal (not too many people even use the handheld canister for Oreck's to begin with anyway). This does feature a 2 speed motor which can be switched to low speed for cleaning low pile area rugs or even bare floors (but in my opinion, this doesn't do that well, even with the rubber seal on the back, but since the bristles are long and stiff, that it makes a loud buzzing noise across bare floor surfaces). It features a 5.5 amp motor with direct air design (and oddly enough, sounds almost like an Oreck, but that's mostly due to the 5 blade fan impeller that the R10's use compared to the 7 blade on the RSL models) and takes r10 specific bags (that uses a similar docking system similar to what Oreck uses). The suction is not the good, the airflow is great (thanks to it's much larger fill tube than an Oreck), the agitation on this is incredible, mostly thanks to those stiff bristles on the brush roll. My only complaint about this machine is for how pricey these are brand new, and the release pedal takes some getting used to, cause there were some other models that did not use the pedal release. Overall, this is an amazing vacuum to use, and does perform fantastic.
