In market societies, the teacher and student have a functional relationship. The teacher is hired to teach a certain subject to the student. The student-teacher relationship does not extend outside the classroom, and it does not extend outside the scope of the particular subject which the teacher is paid to teach. In contrast, a teacher is a mentor, guide, and life coach to his students within an Islamic Pedagogical environment. This requires substantial changes in teaching style and in the subject matter.
