After retiring in 1998, pensioner Mary Morley began saving money from her state pension to ensure she wouldn’t be a burden to her family as she got older. By the time she reached 86-years-old, Mary had saved an impressive £32,000 - enough, she hoped to carry her through until the end of her life. That was until her local council demanded she paid back over 80% of the money, all because she had unknowingly saved double the amount people claiming housing benefit are allowed to accumulate. As her appeal to overturn the decision is rejected - we’re joined by Mary’s granddaughter Mafalda Johnson, alongside financial expert Victoria Bischoff.
