When I got up in the morning on Monday it was near freezing temperatures in the off grid RV. It had been in the low teens at night and the RV is not yet fully insulated. I still have some renovation work to finish up.

The bathroom sink had no running water. The water had frozen in the lines. This surprised me because I did not think it was that cold out. I had the wood fire going and the propane heater on low. But in the night the fire dies down so normally the propane maintains the heat in the RV. This night the wind was blowing strongly and sucked the heat out of the RV.

I had planned to finish insulating under the floor with another layer of foam padding under the carpet. I had enough extra when I laid the carpet down and was going to put that in but then I left for Australia.

Now I decided is the time to get it done.

I emptied out the whole living room and pulled up the new carpet. I did not put down trim before I left because I planned to do this one day soon. I also exposed the metal plate that holds the living room table in place. The RV has a removable table that fits the living room. Its a standard camper and RV table with a metal pole that inserts into a metal plate in the floor and then the table top fits on the pole.

I removed the metal plate and cut a whole in the foam padding so expose the hole in the floor where the plate goes. Then I added the second layer of foam padding and cut the hole in that as well. Then I put the carpet down and cut a couple slits in that to fit the metal plate.

I had to run into town for supplies in the middle of the project. I needed longer screws and staples for the job. I then screwed the metal plate into the floor and it looks nice.

Another part of my RV renovation includes installing a homemade entertainment center. I got the materials when I was in town and started to build my own custom fit entertainment center for my RV.

I cut the shelves to match the curves of the kitchen counter and flow around into the living room. I put up a back splash board behind the TV to protect it from water when working in the kitchen sink.

The new entertainment center looks amazing. It is no nice. Now my RV is starting to look like a real home. I have so much more living space in here now. It is awesome. I am so happy to have it looking so good now.

And the floor is not as cold as it was before. The bedroom floor was finished already and you could feel the difference. Now the living room floor has more padding and insulation. It is so much better now.

I still have to put down trim between the carpet and the walls but that will have to wait until funds allow.

I still have a lot of work to do on the RV renovation and insulation but I will keep working on it. Eventually it will retain heat and be nice and warm in here.
