How to disconnect and install a lawn sprinkler pump.
This Pump services a 3 zone system, all pvc piping. Borner residential home. At some point in the lifespan of any type of sprinkler pump, it is likely to need maintenance or repairs and Replacement, so it's helpful to know in advance how to disconnect it and install a lawn sprinkler pump. Irrigation water can come from a well, natural body of water or a cistern that collects rainwater from the roof. What these sources have in common is the requirement of a pump to pressurize the irrigation system.
1 Turn off the power supply to the pump. Most systems use a pump start relay switch wired to the irrigation controller that activates the pump each time the controller opens a valve. If this is the case, unplug the controller and the power will be disconnected to the pump. If the pump is plugged into an electrical outlet, rather than hard-wired to the circuit, simply unplug it from the outlet. In any other configuration, it is necessary to locate the circuit breaker that controls the pump and flip it to the "Off" position.
2 Unscrew and or pull the plugged type that hold each electrical wire to the terminals on the pump and remove the wires. On most pumps, the wire connections are behind a metal plate or covering that must be removed first. Typically, a couple small screws must be loosened to remove the cover.
3 For PVC connection with no couplings cut the inlet pipe with an hacksaw close ti the fitting
4 Unscrew the other fitting from the pump, which goes to the sprinklers.
5 Remove any screws or bolts that hold the pump to the floor. These pass through holes in the base of the pump, but are not always used. The pump can now be removed for repair.
The new pump we installed is GOULDS Pumps GT20 IRRI-Gator Self-Priming Single Phase Centrifugal Pump, 2 hp, Blue.
