EDCO's classic trucks will soon be no more as they have aggressively stepped up their fleet renewal program. By the end of 2024, most, if not all of their diesel trucks will be scrapped or sidelined, being replaced with CNG trucks. I ventured out on Presidents Day in the hopes of finding one of their old front loaders and ran into 496 collecting trash. Despite being almost 3 decades old, it sure doesn't show its age. With the right driver and helper behind the wheel, it can stand up to just about any new natural gas truck.

496 and its sister units show just how well EDCO takes care of their trucks. It's probably safe to say any other hauler as large as EDCO would have scrapped it a while ago, or avoided fixing cosmetic issues. It'll be unfortunate to see the remaining diesels leave EDCO as they probably could have gotten much more life out of them.
