It made a star out of its titular protagonist, Buffy, played by Sarah Michell Gellar, and also skyrocketed many of its other cast members to stardom. However, two mainstream Hollywood actors could have starred in the show. Katy Holmes, who starred in Dawson’s Creek, was an early favorite to play the role of Buffy ahead of Sarah Michell Gellar. None other than Ryan Reynolds of Deadpool fame was also in the running to play Xander in the show. Reynolds, however, turned down the role and has been quoted as saying, “I loved that show and I love Joss Whedon, but my biggest concern was that I didn’t want to play a guy in High School.”
