Is there a doctor in the house? There is now, at York’s new Centre for Blood Research where a clinician-scientist role may be key to improving outcomes for patients with blood cancers

The University of York’s new Centre for Blood Research aims to improve outcomes for patients with blood cancer. When doctors and scientists virtually have their own languages, how do they work together (and with the medical regulatory authorities) to develop, test and introduce new treatments for patients?

In this YorkTalk, Professor Adele Fielding illuminates this fabulous, fascinating, though sometimes frustrating process by drawing on her training as a clinician-scientist in leukaemia research and practice.

She shows how her experience as a “translator” of those professional languages is helping the Centre for Blood Research at York to become a national medical powerhouse by harnessing the three cornerstones of research into blood diseases – basic science, clinical trials and epidemiology.
