What's been a construction site for the past two years is now a home, and the addition of another bookcase/storage unit, an upper cabinet in the kitchen and drawer fronts for the lower cabinet make it feel more comfortable and finished. I also wrap the front porch columns with aluminum, a simple aesthetic feature that will be easy to adjust as the cabin settles and the post heights lower. I'm slowly eating my way through the freezer full of venison, bear and pork, cooking it in cast iron on the wood stove, which is burning 24/7 at this time of year. Soon, spring temperatures will encourage me to transfer most of my cooking to the outdoor fire pit and the summer kitchen, which I'll start building in the next couple of weeks. In preparation of moving the icebox into the breezeway, I clean it with soap and vinegar, although most of my food is stored in the root cellar at this time of year.
With spring seasons approaching, I am practicing shooting my longbow daily so that when the opportunity arrives, I can fill the freezer back up with bear and turkey.
