In 1797, London, haberdasher John Hetherington designed a new sort of hat for himself. The hat was tall and made of silk which gave it a shiny luster. When he wore it out on January 15, 1797, he was not prepared for the reaction of the public which resulted in his arrest and the new top hat was taken into evidence. In this video I will look into the origin of this story and discover how much truth there is behind the story of the first top hat in history.
