Iaido is a Budo martial art that handle the katana.
You fight with a virtual opponent from the drawing and of the katana.
I’ve been training Iaido for more than 8 years, but there was once an incident where I came to hate it.
It was when I attended a seminar held by a famous master.
In iaido, a ritual is always performed before and after training to pay respect to the katana.
It’s because the katana has been considered sacred since ancient times.
We never actually fight with someone with a katana today.
Therefore Iaido is about communicating with yourself and is meant to train your mind.
However, the “master” started to talk with someone during the ritual and said,
What’s for lunch? I’d love curry rice.
As someone who has always taken etiquette seriously, this was quite a shocking experience.
After that day, I could no longer be proud of a martial art where such a person is called a master.
