Uhud is a mountain which loves us and we love it.” This is how the Prophet (peace be upon him) described Mount Uhud, the site of one of the historical crucial epics at the beginning of the spread of Islam and the Prophet’s Hijrah (migration).

Visitors of Madinah are keen to visit this mountain, which witnessed one of the most important battles in the history of Islam, which is known as the Battle of Uhud and took place in the third year of Hijrah. Additionally, many monuments are found on the mountain, including Shuhada Uhud cemetery, where 70 of the Sahabi (companions of the Prophet) are buried, they were martyred in the Battle of Uhud. Sayyid Ash Shuhada Square is also located on the mountain, Sayyid Ash Shuhada is the name known to be used for Hamza bin Abd Almotalib.

The name “Uhud” was mentioned in several accounts. Some mentions have indicated to the uniqueness of the mountain, as it is isolated and detached from other mountains. The mountain appears as one piece, undivided or connected to any other mountain.

The mountain overlooks Madinah from the north standing as a natural barrier in the form of a chain from east to west with a northward slope, 7 km long and between 2 to 3 km wide and reaches a height of 350 meters.

It is located 4 km from the Prophet’s Mosque, with a maximum height of about 1077 meters above sea level.
