This is a Far too Brief History of Mercury
Established as the Ford mil-line brand between Ford and Lincoln, and intended to compete with Buick and Oldsmobile, Mercury struggled with division reshuffling, platform sharing, and a general lack of focus.
While creating some appealing cars, I believe that on their cancellation the auto world shrugged their collective shoulders.
