The Niobium radar, a product of the Nizhny Novgorod Research Institute of Radio Engineering, traces its lineage back to the Sky family of radar systems. The development journey began in the 1980s with the creation of the Sky complex. Over the years, this family saw notable advancements with improved modifications such as Nebo-U in the post-Soviet era.
In 2013, a significant stride occurred with the introduction of the Niobium radar, representing a pinnacle in this lineage. Building on the legacy of its predecessors, Niobium emerged as a state-of-the-art radar system, incorporating advanced features and capabilities. The radar's development was marked by rigorous testing and trial operations, ensuring its efficacy in real-world scenarios.
The Ministry of Defense's decision to initiate serial production in 2017 marked a pivotal milestone, signifying confidence in the radar's performance. Since then, ongoing deliveries to the Aerospace Forces and ground forces have facilitated the integration of Niobium radars into Russia's defense infrastructure. This evolutionary journey underscores a commitment to staying at the forefront of technological advancements in air defense.
