The Arie van Weelden Award is presented to an EAGE member who has made a highly significant contribution to one or more of the disciplines in the Association and who qualifies as a Young Professional. In 2022 this award is presented to Matteo Ravasi and Leonardo Azevedo.

Matteo Ravasi is recognized for his groundbreaking technical contributions
related to the challenging field of seismic amplitude imaging of the subsurface, comprising: (1) a new elastic
(compressional- and shear-wave) reverse-time migration theory based on seismic wavefield interferometry,
including both linear and nonlinear imaging conditions, as well as multi-component marine seismic wavefield
extrapolation. (2) Verification that both migration and deconvolutional wavefield re-datuming can be achieved
without separating multi-component wavefields into up/down-going components. (3) Co-development of
the first solid-Earth (elastic) theory of Marchenko re-datuming/imaging – new theory of seismic subsurface
wavefield extrapolation and imaging or migration. (4) Completion of the world’s first Marchenko-based imaging
application of seismic field measurements acquired at the North Sea Volve oilfield..
