This 49K mile 1979 Thunderbird is one of the 7th Generation models, which was an incredible sales success. While often mistaken for a lesser version of the Lincoln Mark V of the same years, this T-Bird was, in fact, based on the smaller Torino and Cougar platform, and was $3000 less than the 1976 Thunderbird ($14000 in today dollars!), while still cashing in on the Thunderbird name and the desirable flashy styling of the time - it was a masterstroke by Lee Iacocca, and sales went through the roof, peaking in 1978 with more than 300K sold. The affordable personal luxury coupe was in full effect, and Ford finally had something for the Chevrolet Monte Carlo and Chrysler Cordoba.
