Matt Ridley demolishes conventional wisdom that the turning points in history, the great innovations of our time, stem from top down organisations. No matter whether that is government, business or academia. Instead, he argues that these revolutions start from the bottom up, with individuals driving the change and technology on which we all are now reliant. This evolutionary view is contained within his 'trilogy' of works 'The Rational Optimist" (2010), "The Evolution of Everything" (2015) and "How Innovation works" (2020).

Matt Ridley is a journalist, businessman and popular science writer, as well as a member of the House of Lords. As a journalist Matt has regularly contributed to The Economist, The Times, The Daily Telegraph and The Wall Street Journal. His writing covers a range of topics from libertarianism, evolution, innovation and the search for Covid's origin. One of his most recent works is "How Innovation Works: And why it flourishes in freedom" (2020) arguing that innovation is a disorganized, bottom-up process rather than the work of genius individuals.
