Few things can stir up the fury of anxiety like preparing for what we anticipate will be a challenging conversation with a direct report. Whether it's annual review time or you need to provide feedback regarding a performance issue, our minds can spin out of control as we try to muster the courage to have these conversations. While there are some people who love giving feedback, there are others who will do everything they can to avoid it. But why do so many people avoid having these critical conversations? Largely, because they have had so many negative experiences both giving and receiving feedback in the past. In today's video, I share the three most common mistakes leaders make that cause these conversations to go poorly and what you can do to avoid them.
