Bisbee, Arizona, is a town with a rich history and a vibrant cultural scene, just 11 miles from Mexican border and at an elevation of 5,500 feet. Founded in 1880 as a mining town for copper, gold, and silver, Bisbee was named after Judge DeWitt Bisbee, a financial backer of the local Copper Queen Mine.

In 1877, some U.S. army scouts and horse soldiers went to look for Apache Native Americans in the Mule Mountains. Instead of finding Apaches, a man named Jack Dunn saw signs of valuable metals like lead, copper, and maybe silver. He claimed that land for mining, which later turned into the town of Bisbee. After he claimed it, lots of other people rushed there, hoping to find valuable metals and get rich. They found many places with these metals, and Bisbee quickly became famous as a top place for mining copper.

Today, Bisbee is known for its architecture, which has earned its historic district a spot on the National Register of Historic Places. The district showcases a variety of architectural styles, including Colonial Revival, Spanish Revival, and Italianate, among its 80 contributing buildings. The town has adapted from its mining origins, shifting its focus to tourism and the arts by the mid-to-late 20th century, a transformation that has proven successful and enduring.
