OneWire (http://www.onewire.com/videos) interviews Julian Robertson, Founder and Former CEO of Tiger Management, in the latest installment to the Open Door video series with Skiddy von Stade.

"The most important things [to look for in] hedge fund managers is that they are smart and they are honest. Close behind that is probably competitiveness...Someone who won't lose doesn't lose."

A legendary figure in the hedge fund arena, Julian Robertson grew up in the small town of Salisbury, North Carolina, graduating from Episcopal High School and subsequently attending the University of North Carolina. After graduation, Robertson joined the U.S. Navy, which he served under for two years. Upon his return from service, he found a job as a stockbroker at Kidder, Peabody & Co., where he rose through the ranks to eventually run the firm's asset management division. When his career advancement began to taper, Robertson embarked on a one-year sabbatical to New Zealand with his family. Upon his return, he came to found Tiger Management, one of the world's first great hedge funds, which reached $22 billion in assets at its peak. Since Tiger closed in 2000, Robertson has helped seed approximately 40 hedge funds, many of which were founded by former Tiger employees. He is also involved with several university boards and organizations, and he is an active philanthropist, with most of his efforts dedicated to education, the environment, medical research, and religion.
