Howdy ya’ll. Today we have an incredible video, focusing on one of the most unique and incredibly built towns in the world. Dubrovnik, or, Ragusa as it was known until the 19th century, is a beautiful coastal city, previously a bastion, or star fort, sitting on the Adriatic Coast of Croatia. Historically, Ragusa has been a rather large city with nearly impossible architecture built directly into the rocky outlet the city sits upon.

When diving into the oldest photographs and contemplating the history, Ragusa has had great fires, a great earthquake, and indeed numerous instances of being torn down and rebuilt on the same ancient foundations. Dubrovnik, or ancient Ragusa, is today, a UNESCO world heritage site, and may be best known to the mainstream audience from numerous appearances on the television series Game of Thrones.

However, the architecture here is so much more important than the history seems to give it credit for, and without Ragusa’s impact, the entire former region of Dalmatia, today Croatia and beyond, could have been absorbed by the numerous kingdoms attempting to conquer it. Ragusa (Dubrovnik) and the castle have stood for centuries as the fortified heart of the region. Please, enjoy this collection of the oldest photographs of Dubrovnik, and let me know what you think in the comment section down below.
