Before 1980 most every drum set bass drum was 14" deep. Nowadays an 18" depth is pretty standard. What's the difference sonically? For a couple of decades now I have been noticing a trend in performance between shallow and deeper bass drums when miked, and I have finally decided to put my observations to a test.
