Have you ever wondered about stuffing larger tires under your truck? We all do! In this video, I'll take you underneath this 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 with a 5.7 Hemi to show you just how it works with a set of 37" Falken Wildpeak MT tires on Trail Ready Beadlock Wheels.
After the suspension tour, we'll go up into the hills for a bit of off road testing with the new wheels and tires. There is some good hot dogging and a few dirt donuts!
The back story on the truck goes like this. In 2008-9 Fred Williams and Frank Alioto built this Ram for Petersen's 4 Wheel and Offroad magazine and to feature at the SEMA show. The truck was named BlackSheep and was a great build. It won the Dodge design award at the show that year.
After that it went through all kinds of changes for the magazines and then got the crud kicked out of it over the next several years. By the time I got it a few years ago as the Director for the Motor Trend show called Dirt Every Day, the poor thing was fairly used up. The engine ended up failing and I bought it from the company.
It sat for a year before I was able to get a Jasper Engines and Transmissions re-manufactured 5.7 HEMI for the old Dodge and gave it a whole new life.
The plan now is to continue to rebuild this thing system by system until it becomes the adventure rig I see in my head so stay tuned!
