Tesla sells out production capacity for Q2 2021, hinting at monster demand, reveals a new report.

Electrek reports that its sources, familiar with the matter, told Electrek that Tesla communicated to employees that production capacity for the second quarter is already sold out with still almost two months left in the quarter.

"That was to be expected for Model S and Model X with the new versions of these vehicles having production delays that are going to limit deliveries this quarter, but Model 3 and Model Y are still ramping up, and yet, they are sold out. Now it’s about producing and delivering those vehicles to customers by the end of the quarter and building the backlog into Q3," writes Fred Lambert in Electrek (see the reference below).

While the recent reports may sound very optimistic, Tesla has already been exhibiting signs that its production and delivery ramp for Q2 2021 would be far more impressive than the quarters that preceded it.

During Tesla’s Q1 2021 earnings conference call, CEO Elon Musk commented on strong demand for the automaker:

“We’ve seen a real shift in customer perception of electric vehicles and our demand is the best we’ve ever seen. We’re used to seeing a reduction in demand in the first quarter and we saw an increase in demand that exceeded the normal seasonal reduction in demand in Q1.”

Less than a week into the second quarter, for one, drivebys and drone flyovers of the Fremont Factory revealed numerous Model 3s and Model Ys ready to be shipped. Giga Shanghai's parking lot is filled with Model 3 and Model Y vehicles, ready to be delivered. Giga Shanghai exports to Japan and Europe continue, with the first ship of Made-in-China Model 3s arriving in Southampton, England recently.

Who said Tesla will be "killed" by VW ID.3? Now it's boom!

To be fair, I should also note that I think it is not only Tesla that experiences strong demand. GM's Q1 earnings call surprised me a lot. Much better than I expected.
